LONDON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that Islamabad strongly protested against the US drone attack near the Pak-Afghan border because it violated Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Responding to media persons’ questions after his arrival here in connection with his medical check-up, the prime minister said it was not confirm yet that Mullah Akhtar Mansour, a Taliban leader, had been killed in the drone attack. A person identified as Mohammad Wali, resident of Qilla Abdullah, was killed in the attack, he said. US Secretary of State John Kerry, he said, phoned him last night and the US commander also talked to the chief of army staff after the attack.
He said, “We strongly protest over this attack, which happened after many years and is a violation of our sovereignty. It should not have taken place,” he added.
To a question about the Panama leaks, the prime minister said that those who were crying over the Panama leaks had already been exposed before the public. He said that those criticising him should sweep before their own door first. He said that his critics miserably failed to establish any kind of corruption during his previous tenures. He said that he had explained his position to the National Assembly. Numerous details, which were supposed to be submitted to the judicial commission on the Panama leaks, were shared with the House, he said.
The prime minister said that details of the proceeds his family got from the sale of Dubai or Jeddah factories were laid bare before the House. The London flats were purchased from those proceeds, he added.
The prime minister said that his family was deprived of all its assets by the then government during the nationalisation campaign and it was left with empty pockets. He said that such conditions gave birth to the idea of investing money outside Pakistan.
Sharif said that former military ruler Pervez Musharraf sealed everything after takeover and forced his family into exile. He said that his family was maltreated on one hand and subjected to accountability on the other.
