ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support and commitment to the United Nations to ensure success of its objectives.
In his message on the United Nations Day being observed today (Oct 24), the president said, “We believe that the United Nations is the best forum for the international community to deal with the multifarious challenges that our complex and interconnected world faces today. He reminded the UN of its obligations towards Kashmir, saying the Kashmiri people looked towards the United Nations to ensure accountability of those responsible for human rights violations in Indian-held Kashmir and to help realise their right to self-determination promised to them by international community as stipulated in the UN Security Council resolutions.
He said Pakistan attached great importance to multilateral cooperation and had an abiding commitment to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and continued to actively contribute towards their attainment. He said despite the challenges faced domestically in the fight against terrorism, Pakistan remained a major participant in the UN peacekeeping mission. “Over the last five-and-a-half decades, more than 170,000 Pakistani peacekeepers had participated in UN peacekeeping missions around the world and 146 Pakistani peacekeepers made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” he added.
